The county of Devon is always popular with tourists, and is famous for its glorious beaches, beautiful rolling countryside, charming pubs, cream teas, cider and the wide variety of local attractions and places to visit. Cottages in Devon provide a great base for exploring nearby towns such as Dartmouth, Plymouth, Exeter, Torquay, Paignton (zoo) and the market town of Totnes, and each of these towns has much to offer the visitor.
One of the great things about a Devon Cottage Holiday at Sheplegh Court is the fantastic range of facilities available on site; you don’t need to venture further afield unless you want to explore the area. Woodlands Adventure Park is close by, which is a great favourite with the children, and Dartmouth Golf Club is half a mile away (25% concessions for Sheplegh Court visitors).
There are also several excellent local pubs, including the Normandy Arms and Gastropub the George Inn, in Blackawton, and great food at the Michelin rated Kings Arms, in Strete.
Blackawton itself is a small, tranquil village, and is a previous winner of the ‘Britain in Bloom’ competition. The village is about five miles from Dartmouth and seven miles from Totnes, but is tucked away from the main roads, so is always a peaceful and relaxing place to spend some time.
Good local places to visit also include the miles of sandy beach at Slapton, various National Trust properties and gardens, and Crealey Park.
